Yes! Meyer Hatchery does offer a Sex Identification Service (SIS) to assist in identifying males (or females) on your order for a flat $6.00 fee.
For orders consisting of chicks ordered as males and females (meaning not orders containing straight run, unsexed chicks), Meyer Hatchery can mark one of the genders of your chicks in your order. Typically, the males in the order are marked, but if the number of females is less than the males, we may mark the females instead. Marking is done by one of two ways; either with a leg band on the identified chicks or by placing the identified chicks together in one corner of a divided box and then marking the outside of the box. The way that an order will be marked is determined by the hatchery based on the size of an order. A customer cannot request that a certain method is used over the other. Leg bands will need to be removed by the customer within 7 days from hatch. This service is available for standard sized chickens only. Not available for Bantam breeds, nor for any other types of poultry.
The Sex Identification Service cannot be added by a customer during online checkout. To obtain this service with your order, you may place your order online then call, chat or email our Customer Support Team to request that this service be added to your order. You will need to include your name and zip code, the order number, and permission to charge the credit card on your account for the $6.00 SIS service fee.
If you have added the SIS service to your order, and in the event that your order also contains certain Rare Breeds, your chick may arrive with 2 bands; a blue band noting that he is a male and also another leg band indicating his Rare Breed.
