Meyer Hatchery predominantly carries non-hybrid or pure breed poultry. Hybrids are created by crossing two different parents and will not breed true. Crosses are generally created for vigor and production qualities, but also, in the case of Lisa Steele's breeds, they were created with her wish list of traits in mind.
The following is the list of hybrids that Meyer Hatchery carries:
- Cornish Cross
- Cornish Cross are a special hybrid that we have fine-tuned over many generations specifically for fast growth rates for meat production. Because they are a hybrid, you cannot cross a male and female Cornish Cross and hatch out more Cornish Cross. Additionally, for their own health and well-being, Cornish Cross should not be kept beyond their processing age of 6-9 weeks.
- Ranger Broilers
- Ranger Broilers are a special hybrid that we have fine-tuned over many generations specifically for fast growth rates for meat production. Because they are a hybrid, you cannot cross a male and female Ranger Broiler and hatch out more Ranger Broilers. Additionally, for their own health and well-being, Ranger Broilers should not be kept beyond their processing age of 9-11 weeks.
- Golden Buff
- Olive Egger
- Our Olive Eggers are considered an F1 hybrid. If you breed the offspring, they will be considered an F2 Oliver Egger. Their feather patterns will likely not look the same, but often their eggs are darker olive than that of their parents.
