How much roost space do I need for turkeys?

We recommend at least 15 inches of roost space per broad-breasted turkey. Heritage turkey varieties can use a bit smaller of a space with 12 inches of roost space per bird. A 2x4 makes an excellent roost.

Heritage varieties may prefer to roost higher off the ground, and if allowed to free-range my roost on fence posts or in trees. Broad-breasted varieties need to have the roost low to the ground.

Our signature turkeys will be happy with space in the 12-15 inch range and will prefer to be lower to the ground as they are a Broad-breasted variety.
