It may be helpful to know the difference between an expiration date and a best by date when deciding whether or not a product is safe to consume.
Expired by means that the contents of the package will likely spoil and it's best not to use past the date listed on the packaging.
Meyer Hatchery Vital packs display a Best By date on the packaging. The date noted is a suggested date that simply means that the contents of the packaging will have the best qualities if consumed by that date. If stored properly, it is completely safe to use the product past the best by date. Past the best by date, the content quality will decrease as time passes.
