We’re listening and we’ve responded to you, our fellow chick fans! Meyer Hatchery is now marking some of the chick breeds that are more difficult to identify with tiny color-coded leg bands. This service will be at no charge to the customer, and is only available for select breeds that we’ve determined are the more difficult breeds to ID based on customer feedback and in-house experience. Males will be marked with a blue band in addition to the ID leg band. We recommend removing leg bands or stepping up a size, after about 7 days from hatch. Bands are super easy to remove, they are just a rubber band and slip off the foot very easily! For those of you who are curious about your chicks not wearing a leg band, see our Help Desk article on Chick Identification. If you ordered an assortment, it could have banded breeds included.
