Recently, USPS has implemented a per-box surcharge for all shipments of perishables. This affects our shipments of chicks, poults, hatching eggs, and other live poultry. This surcharge is on top of existing postage fees and is an additional cost we simply cannot absorb. To account for this change, Meyer Hatchery had to make the difficult decision to adjust our replacement policy. Effective on orders placed on or after 1/13/2025 that incur a loss, replacement orders will only be offered on orders where more than half the quantity ordered is a loss. Losses below this threshold will be eligible for a refund only.
This surcharge is applied by USPS to ensure the priority handling and specialized care required for safely delivering live poultry. Meyer Hatchery remains committed to providing high-quality service and maintaining the safety and health of all orders during transit.
This adjustment allows Meyer Hatchery to continue delivering chicks and other poultry with the care and reliability our customers expect. For any questions, please contact our customer service team.
If you have more questions or want to share your concerns about this surcharge, we encourage you to reach out to your state senator or representative in Washington, DC. Find your senator or representative and their contact information, here.
