Your box of chicks is here. Now what? Here are some things to note and look for when unboxing your chicks; your box includes so much more than just your new flock additions!
But first, here are a few videos to help get you started:
Click here to watch Jess unbox her chicks on our YouTube Channel.
Click here to watch Jess mix up our Vital Pack and Vital Pack Plus.
Click here to watch Jess mix up our GroGel.
Click here to watch Jess remove the ID Leg Bands.
When your chicks arrive, the first thing you should pay attention to is any stickers or instructions on the outside or under the lid of the box as important information may be found there. For example, the underside of your lid will list all of your breeds and quantity, as well as any leg bands used for identification on our rare breeds. If you have males, the corner they are in could be marked. If you ordered GroGel or Vital Pack, there is a sticker on top letting you know to check under the chick's bedding. Now you can cut the packing straps and unstaple the lid.
Please make a mental note of the heat pack’s temperature (warm/cold) in case you need that information to report any 48-hour chick losses. Also, please make another mental note of the box condition and if there are air holes punched out for ventilation. You can then discard the shipping box and heat pack.
That’s it! We can safely ship the Vital Pack and GroGel under the bedding of the box and the chicks ride on top. Don’t forget to ask for these items when you order your next box of chicks!
